I went in my local dealer today because i got the error too on a 2004 525i, he told me there was no campaign for my car. Called up North America, they checked my vin and said the same things that they go by the VIN, so basically they both told me to f*ck off, after i have purchased 4 BMW's. I wrote a letter to NHSTA, so well see where that takes me. Im thinking of resetting the message, because I DID change my battery a few months ago

Got the infamous "Passenger Restraint System Malfunction" last week, went directly to the forums, and reading other people's posts got me a bit nervous. I began by calling the dealer and asking them if they had any recalls on my car, of course, they said NO, and that I should take it in to have it checked, and to check it would run me $150. Went back to the forums and read that I had to be persistent and that I should get in touch with BMWNA, so I did. Gal there informed me that an owner prior to myself, had purchased an extended warranty that covered any airbag issues, and that the dealer (McKenna Norwalk, CA) should have informed me of my warranty. From there, I went directly to Savage BMW Ontario, CA. where Gary (Service) informed me that they would have to check the car and determine if it was in fact what I had told them, the mat sensor in the seat. If it was, it is airbag related, and warranty would cover. If it wasn't, $150 diagnostic, plus parts and diagnostic fee would go towards labor fees.
Turned out it was related, got it fixed free of charge, took from Friday to Tuesday and even got a 2011 335d loaner with unlimited miles. Pretty happy with Gary and BMWNA!!
