I am kind of lost. I am thinking to change my car to a new one and was thinking about the new options.

Can someone answer the following?

1. Sport Auto Transmision? A link to a topic that will shed some light on this? Searching "Sport Automatic Transmission" renders me too many results where I cannot understand what is this about.
2. 535i? 528i? I looked up on www.bmw.com and www.bmw.de and saw no such models. Can someone explain to me when are these supposed to be available?
3. Nightvision? Worth looking into it. Some pointers here on forum?

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Your question number two: those models are available only in the USA. In Europe you can find 525i & 530 i with new engines.

Use BMW.de configurator for sport auto tranny and nightvision.

Best regards,

TGII

I couldn't help myself. I had to beat someone to the punch.

Anyhow,
1. Sport transmission is a Step with faster shift points and rev matching. It's the successor to SMG, at least for now. It comes with paddle shifters.
2. I don't think Europe is getting the 535i nor 528i. These models are for the North American market.
3. Night vision? dunno.

So US gets the new bi-turbo petrol engine and Europe doesn't? Anyway, looking on www.bmw.com (isn't this the US site) I could not find 535i. Shouldn't be listed there?

US site is bmwusa.com. Europe already has a turbo, the 535d.

Thanks a lot. Is there anywhere on this forum a discussion about this transmission?

Looks very strange to me. Europe gets 523i, 525i, 530i, 540i and 550i and US gets 528i, 530i, 535i and 550i. Very odd.

I can tell you a bit on the Nightvision, I have had it for a year.

1) Nice to have but not necessary unless you drive in rural areas with deer or moose or kids in area where you can easily pick them up on the camera. The technology does a great job of highlighting heated objects and defining them well on the screen. It is tricky looking over to the screen when driving but I don't think it would work well if projected on the windshield via HUD. It would be confusing to see two images of straight ahead layed over each other.

2) It works just as advertised, I have had no problems with it working which is amazing considering its basically new technology for BMW.

3) If you have limited funds I would say definately spend the money first towards the 535 vs. the 528, or sports pkg vs std. Its nice to have but after you have purchased the necessary options. A true luxury item on a luxury car.

Gasoline is less expensive in U.S. Diesel fuel is not common. Marketing decision.

Not so odd.

US doesn't get 530i and the 528i is 3 litre.
