Hi Guys, i was hoping someone could help me out here. I had the famous "passenger restraint system fault" error come up on my idrive a while back. the dealer said it was a recall for a faluty seat sensor mat, which i know is a common issue and replaced it and the code went away. after a few months the same error appeared on the idrive and i took it back to the dealer and told them that they did not fix it properly. they ran a bunch of diagnostic tests and informed me that this time the error came up for a different reason. Error code was "98DF control unit fault" and that i need a new airbag ECU module with gateway. i took the car to an indy shop that has the AUTOLOGIC tool and her ran it and got the same code. can anyone confirm the following:
1) is this is the unit that i need to buy in order to get this fixed

2) Do i need to buy it brand new, or can i buy this as used and have someone code it?
3)will the used unit work once coded?
4) will i be able to code it myself with this product

I'll answer your questions in order.
1) Not exactly sure, give your dealer a call and ask them for the part # for the error they told u about.
2) The unit software may be malfunctioning indeed and not the physical unit itself. If so, flashing and re-coding to car would work fine.
3) Same answer as 2
4) You didn't mention the year of your car but if your car i not a 2008 and up, yes this is perfect. In fact this is what i have too! Yes you'll be able to do that along with so many other things.Anyway sorry this wasn't answered sooner and good luck bro.

Not 100% sure yet (dong research myself...slowly). I believe the passenger restraint module is located in the passenger door. Normally used modules can be recoded. Be aware, that the software to code these modules is diffilcult to use and learn. Thus, on such a critical safety device I would recommend having a knowledgable indie code the module using Autologic or equivalent.
