Thumbs up

I just purchased a 2004 545i with most all the options including the Logic 7 sound system.

I was wondering if the CD player can play MP3 file CD's?
If so how about the CD Changer?

Thanks

Depends on the build date and software version. If it meets the right date and version, you can use the in-dash slots to play MP3 discs but not the changer...

Thanks for the link. That is great information.
I found out that the build date on my 04 545 was Jan 2004. Do you know if that build date supports the MP3 format?

Thanks

Here's what I remember (I'll try to get more concrete information later unless someone else can post it or correct me...)

You should be able to get MP3 playback functionality with only a software upgrade (depending on what version you're running, you might not even need an upgrade). The key is that when the software upgrade is performed, a special step is required to perform an MP3 retrofit. There are a ton of details already on the forums here but right now, I don't have the time to find them.

Hope someone else will chime in or, if not, play around with the search function...

Do you have Navigation? All your sig. says is "Loaded". If yes, then Rudy is correct, you should be able to activate with software. If no Nav, then you're in the same boat as me, no MP3...

I do have Nav. I just stopped by the Dealer (BMW Pleasanton CA) and the service rep. said it is not possible. He said they have tried and were not able to get any of the 545 or 550s to play MP3 files.

I may have to try another dealer.

Thanks.
