Can my 04 530i play mp3?
Hey guys
I'm sorry if this has been discussed several times already AND I have read several threads about it, BUT I'M STILL CONFUSED.
I have an 04 530i (05/04 build date) with navigation. I don't know if I have ProNav or CCC (WHATEVER THESE ARE). But I wanted to know if I could just get a software upgrade to allow for mp3 CD playback in my indash cd player.
It would be cool to have 100+ songs on a single cd. I also have an ipod but they say I cannot have the ipod integration for this car, I don't want the AUX jack option NOR the FM frequency option and I don't have tape in this car for direct tape/ipod connection.
SO if the mp3 doesn't work out, I guess I'll be burning CDs MORE FREQUENTLY..

No. You cannot play MP3. There is no software update that will allow you to play MP3, though there may be someday. The prevailing thought was that CIP 20.x would add this capability, but we do not know that yet.
"Pro Nav" or "CCC" means Navigation in the United States, and this is actually explained by me several times in the MP3 threads. The reason why we say "Pro Nav" is because outside of the US, there are two different kinds of navigation, but only "Pro Nav" is the one with the 8.8" screen and graphical maps, and, until October 2005, also couldn't play MP3s. The only navigation system available in the US is "Pro Nav". "CCC" is the type of computer used in Pro Nav cars. Non-Pro Nav cars use a computer called "M-ASK" (and recent iterations of M-ASK with Pro Radio can play MP3s).
