My friend crashed his 330i going down a hill with snow on his summer tires. $2,000 damage. I was in front of him with all seasons (Turanza) and I saw him skid and spin in my mirrors until he swirved off into a ditch. My point is, I would invest in winter tires and keep them on for the winter.

Personally I think you will have reduced and unpredictable traction on summer tires in cold temperatures

gregg- like i stated in your other similar thread, you will have NO problems in the freezing cold... i have the same tires all winter long. ive been doing this for many years; using dedicated summer tires in winter. you just cant drive in snow! plus with 85 miles you'll warm up the tires no problem.

....u need to worry about black ice and the road surfaces freezing as much as actual snow.
I hit a patch of black ice a few nights ago.....good thing it was a small patch with only a slight curve in the road. The car totally lost contact with the road, but quickly regained its footing after I crossed the section of overpass that was iced up.

It was a scary moment, though, to feel the entire car starting to slide. Winter tires/rims just arrived, so they are going on soon. Be careful out there!

+1

You will have NO problems in the feezing cold. I drove many times when temp fell below 25 degrees. No problem at all.
It took a while to heat up the tires but I honestly did not feel any difference when temp were 100 and 25 when I drive normal/gentle driving.
As long as you are not driving in snow, you will be fine.

I'm with Doc and Ricracing on this one...

Living in the cold-belt the last 45+ years has taught me one simple lesson;

Summer tires are for summer...

You'll have to decide how much risk you think is out there and how much risk you're willing to take

You should be fine provided you do not drive like an idiot. Take corners very conservatively and watch out for black ice. Drive safe

Gregg, you're just a cheap SOB. You're putting the safety of yourself and your family at risk. Wake up.
