Hey guys! Just two weeks ago my fiance took delivery of her X3 and I read on one of the included materials that BMW Assist can locate your car if/when its stolen (hopefully not). Does this mean that we can take the savings advantage from our insurance companies? Although my record isnt the best, my insurance had asked if I had LoJack and quoted a savings of approximately $850 per year. Any information? Could save us all a bunch of mula!!!

Yes, In the US (at least) it does. There is a certificate with the BMW Assist pack that you can give to your insurance company to claim the discount. You need an active subscription though for the recovery feature, if you let it lapse after the complimentary period to the best of my knowledge you won't be covered.

Oh man, and to think that my insurance company asked me when taking out insurance on my 530xi, I could have saved it from then. Thanks guys... I owe you a drink or two or three...

So all I do is call up Assist now and ask for the certificate and forward to my insurance company.. or do I need anything else?? To those of you who have done this please help.

I think that's all you need to do, or the dealer may be able to help if they kept a copy of the BMW Assist paperwork. Best of luck, keep us posted.

i'm not sure on what all changed insurance wise fromt he '04 to the '06 .. but in my case

from:
'04 530i = $54,000

to
'06 530i = $62,000

my insurance went down by about $120/year .. .and i did send in the Assist Recovery Certificate. this is with nationwide.

Thats about right... I dont know how he got $850 discount... for most insurance companies if the car is equipped with LoJack or BMWs Theft recovery thingy they offer disount, 10% 20% or whatever off the Comprehensive portion your insurance not the total... so for me its like a whopping total of $18 a year.

I didnt get an $850/year discount, I had been quoted that much if I had LoJack. As I previously stated, my insurance is sky-high because of my driving record from years ago during college, now I pay the price. Regardless my isurance is upwards of $6200 per year. That was what they quoted me saving per year, or $425 per 6 months. This was with LoJack, my question was if BMW Assist can act like it therfore taking advantage of the savings.

In the US, and only in the US, BMW Assist can locate the car if it gets stolen and the owner reprots it to BMW Assist.
This system is NOT like LoJack! The police cars are not equipped to locate a stolen BMW with assist.
Anyways, you should get a discount.
