Thumbs up

Does anyone know if you purchase a 550i with 6sp or SMG if the $1000.00 gas guzzler tax is still applied?

If you ordered one prior to October 2005, GGT = $1000. If you order after October 2005, GGT = $1300. (I lucked out and saved $300 when I ordered my 550i 6MT in June!)

Wow $1300, that sucks. Test drove a 2004 545 SMG the other day and remarkable. I do not like buying used cars, but I was thinking about it. How do you like your 6sp in traffic?

I received my car on 12/12/05 and the sticker indicated $1,300 GGT. The dealer only charged $1,000 because that is what they had estimated at the time I ordered the car. It is a 550 manual.

Even $1300 still beats the $3700 I just had to pay on my M5. Not to sound like my father but I think that is more than he paid for his first house (or so the story goes!)

Merry Christmas to All!

$3,700 Gas Guzzler Tax! MAN! The government loves M5's as much as the M5 drivers do! That would pay for a mighty nice bridge to nowhere in Alaska.

Curious: Mine (a new 2004 leftover) had a blank space beside the GG on the window sticker. Earlier, the SM had told me it was figured in the price of the car. But if it wasn't on the sticker, and we worked off that price, was there none?

Was yours ITEMIZED? Sounds like it gets "played."

I too had the dealer write it up at $1000. The car is due in in a few weeks. Can't wait to see if the will try to increase it ti $1300. Waiting is painfull....Have been tracking thanks to all the great posts that clued me in on how to do it. At the port...waiting for the ship.

Why do Sedans get GGT and not SUVs and trucks? Whats the difference? So they say SUVs are used commercially to hull stuff so they dont need GGT? BS! Only if you have registered the SUV / Truck for commercial use then ok... but all the other ones on the road I say should pay GGT also.

good question...the amount also has something to do with sales volume.
