can a 550 stop smoothly? please help..
I have an 06 550 I bought 2 months ago, and have now driven 2k miles on it (bought it with 9k) I've updated the software to v26 from the dealer but I still cannot for the life of me stop smoothly. At every stop no matter how I try to feather the brake it stops abruptly with a sharp jolt at the end.
And when I let go of the brake after the stop it does lunge forward a bit (maybe it's the 360hp?)
I've looked at all the posts in the forums but cant' really see anyone else complaining about this. I'd say it's the only complaint of the car, the inability to stop and start smoothly. In stop and go traffic, it's really really annoying. Passengers think I'm a bad driver, and I end up sometimes shift to neutral to stop smoothly.

The brakes are robust and grippy. The best thing to do is bring the cat almost to a full stop then slightly release the brakes, then re-brake to a full stop.

This is one of the annoying things I have noted on my one month old 530i- the grabby brakes- awful in the city- I am hoping that it would go away once the brakes are bedded in.

Is it the brakes or comfort stop trying too hard.
Just an off the wall idea to try not that it'll improve anything, but when coming to a stop at around 15mph shift into neutral and proceed to stop. see if its any smoother. I'm just curious to know.

That doesn't work. Even from an idling along with no foot on the gas, and stopping it jumps at the stop. Do you think the dealer can fix this? or is it the way it is???

Oh yeah, stopping with the car in neutral definitely lets me stop nice and smoothly. But throwing it from sport to neutral at every stop doesn't seem like a realistic option

No, you're right thats not an option at but I was just curious. If thats the case have you tried resetting the transmission? There were instructions posted here.
Put the car in position 2. (Aux power) DO NOT START THE CAR but have all the electronics on
then step on the gas all the way past kickdown point for 20 seconds and I forget if anything was suppose to happen to indicate that it got reset
then drive off. It should be reset.
Do a search for exact instructions I just posted that off memory and as old as I am I dont have much of it.

My 2cts: I'm pretty sure that it's minimal 25 seconds (better take 30). Around 25 you may hear a little click sound.
