camshaft positioning sensor.
I recently got engine light for camshaft position sensor, i ordered genuine bmw part. i had my mechanic replace it. he cleared the code. after driving for like 30 min code came back on.
i have 2008 528i
how many camshaft positioning sensors does 528i have? and are they exactly the same one just has 2 of them? any information would help

Has the same problem when I had my 530i plus more codes will pop soon. Ended up being the manifold adjuster unit. There's a plastic flap that cracks or a piece will break off. I bought a new one for $200 but I think there's a kit to replace the flap with a more sturdy flap

We do have some articles on the 5 series cam shaft sensors over in our Tech Articles archive. Hopefully this is helpful: BMW E60 5-Series Camshaft Sensor Replacement (M54 6-Cylinder) - Pelican Parts Technical Article
i replaced both camshaft but engine light still coming on after clearing it. comes on when in idle on red light. car rpm dips and causes engine light with camshaft code.

next code P0012: A camshaft position timing over- retarded.
bank 1
Turn the car off and back on and the code is gone for a bit and the power is back........for a short while. Maybe 5 minutes, maybe 20 minutes.
and thank you for responding.
I'd look at the VANOS system - that kind of symptom sounds similar, though usually it exhibits more of a lumpy idle than a serious loss of power. Poor oil pressure can cause that (make sure all the O-rings are present on your oil filter cap assembly).
