I'm ready to take in my 530i for the Cal. emissions recall. Will the dealership provide a loaner for this type of service?

I suggest you to find more problem with i-Drive and ask them to upgrade the software, and check light bracket for cracking and ask them to change it, etc. The more work they have, the better chance you'll have a loaner. Emission recall thing would not qualify you for loaner.

my530i, your idea is good, do everything at once. it's time consuming to go back and forth. but if the recall alone, it will qualify for a loaner because the s/w update takes quite awhile. jwo, it's always better for you to make an appointment ahead of time and request for a loaner. then your dealer have time to reserve one for you. otherwise you'll get a enterprise rental or shuttle service :'(.

Shelly BMW was scheduling E60 for specific days. With so many cars going in for a recall fix, definitely call for an appointment and let them know all the issues when talk to them. Ask about a loaner before you go so you won't be disappointed when you get there.
