I have had a lot of problem with my ac including non functioning max button, no ac at all, and a period of 20-30 minutes that the a/c would not cool after initial start up. Several repairs have been made including a ground wire, replacing the battery, and replacing the compressor.
Now I have noticed that when the a/c has been running for a while and the car is cool that instead of increasing fan speed slightly to maintain temp the a/c fun will do like a one second gust and then go back to low and a little while later do the same thing.
Is this normal?

Have you noticed that any condensation has been coming out of your vents? I had a similar problem with my X5 and the dealer discovered that the problem turned out to be a cracked spray nozzle and faulty final stage resistor. Have they checked the blower resistor? Mine's being replaced under warranty for intermittent fan operation.
It might work for a while and then not again.
Had the same problem with my '01 E39 and twice in my '05 E60.
In the E60 they did change both the resistor and the fan/blower,
and twice as I said.
The resistor is a bitch to change in the E60.
In the E39 it took about 5 minutes, but in the E60 it takes about 4-5 hours.
