Unfortunatley the lunging and lurching on occasional cold starts wore me out. The dealership could not duplicate after multiple visits. A month ago it It lurched into my gate. Yesterday at work it lurched again. Over the dealer. Got a new Acura TSX. Maybe later a BMW. Still have the Mini and Ford Ranger. I just need to drive something with reliability. I will monitor the forum. Will have BMW in my heart always, just, not in my driveway right now. Mini has been problem free. Feb will make 1 yr.
Peace! and Happy Holidays,
Martin

good for you. i hope to be joining the exodus soon myself. my 545i is the 2nd worst POS i've ever owned, and it only has 42k miles on it!!!!!! the worst was my first car.....a 1981 monte carlo, early 80's american cars, the worst of the worst. so for a bmw to take 2nd place is a very sad fact. this is my 1st german car, and my last. i just wish the japanese made something i liked.....skyline GTR perhaps?

turned into the parking lot at work this morning and got an active steering malfunction, the fluid level is right on the upper mark too..... idrive lit up like a xmas tree..... merry effing xmas for me. i've had enough, not going to take this sh*t anymore.

yes bmw's are great cars.....when they're not broken.

Sorry to hear the troubles guys. I am glad I am a little more fortunate having a better experience with my 545i, but hopefully good members can drop in once in awhile still, even if you don't have your E60 anymore. Best of luck and congrats on the new car.

Happy holidays.

Sorry to hear that Martin. Don't leave the forum, though. Your input and advice is appreciated.

I personally blame the dealership for some of the problems. The sunroof deflector would hit the sunroof when closed and make a clanking metal on metal noise. You could only hear it id you had the sunshade open. It would happen closing a door or hitting a bump in the road. Showed the SA and she acknowledged the sound. They did the regular maintenance , too. I went to pick the car up and the SA was not working that day. Sunroof still made f***ing noise. Technician could not duplicate. Left pissed. The SA called the next day and told me she showed one of the techs the sound and apologized for not fixing it. They also Dented my roundel in the sterring wheel when replacing a part worn on steering wheel. Next time took it in they replaced the roundel and fixed the clanking noise. However, on way home I discovered with the sunroof closed and shade open there was a whistling sound. There is a SIB on the seal. Apparently they did not test drive the car. That dealership was the closest at an hour away. Along with the other problems, like embarrassment when my coworkers would ask why I was driving all of these different cars (loaners). Next closest dealer is an hour and a half today.
I can get the Acura serviced at local Honda delaership. Over the drama. @ least for now.
Happy Holidays. Drive safely!

Sorry to hear your troubles. Perhaps the venting should have been done earlier....if you're dealing with a dealer and you know the kind of service they provide, you should have vented immediately, not accepted the vehicle and asked to be compensated with a rental. I would never pay for something that was not done or not done to expectation. Everyone is different. Some people get screwed and except it. So now you have to ask yourself...are you one of those people? If so, and you don't like it, change it. I am sure we were all innocent at one time or another and tried the "nice guy" approach.....don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to be an a$h0le with people, be humble but stand your ground.

I hear griping and groaning all the time from friends and family members.....and I simply tell them, they are not ready to own a BMW. Period. Sure bushings go out....stupid little things pop up. But at the same time other cars also have issues. CV joints, constant alignment issues. Some factory recalls. BMW has stood its ground for a long time and with class. The company didn't get to where its at now by making bad decisions.

The new Acura TSX is a nice car but I dislike the exterior. I was fond of the 3G Acura cars. TL/TSX/RL great looking cars but the new cars look downright FUGLY.

Sorry to see you leave, it seems with BMW you either live with the issues they have and/or you have to fix them right away. Right now I'm living with my issues and fixing them as I get the time. Does not make it a very enjoyable experience, I got this one used and it kind of puts a little fear into my eyes about buying another.

I was passive initially playing the nice guy as to not piss of the nearest dealer (1hr away). Became assertive and I got BMW Customer relations involved with the lunging and lurching ( a safety issue) and a case was opened. Something like a tarp case? That name soungs vaguely familiar. Problem was not duplicated and was never fixed. Happened sporatically on cold starts. Too much drama for a 50,000 dollar car.

I agree that nothing drives like a BMW. I will be back. Just need a mental health break.
