Well, I just got the report back from my mechanic. He said that the car is in average condition for the age/mileage with no major issues mechanically. He said that it was likely classified as "below average" simply due to the mileage, but he felt the car was in good condition overall and was well maintained and had no repair work done.
The exterior had a couple of dings and scratches that were consistent with its age/mileage. Nothing major there.
Mechanically, it needs a new battery and there was a minor leak in the oil pan gasket. The dealer has already told me he will get those both taken care of under warranty at BMW. Besides that he said the rear wheels will need to be replaced soonish with about 33% of the tread remaining and the timing belts will need to be replaced in about 10k miles.
Overall I am pleased with the report. Based on the condition he estimated that the appraised value to be 34500. So I am doing well at $33000.
I think I am going to do it. I feel like I am getting a good discount based on the mileage but mechanically the car is sound and I am now confidant in that, plus the extended warranty will cover me for the next 4 years and 50k.
I'll post some pics when I get it and if anyone in the DC area needs to get a pre-purchase inspection, Auto Analyst was awesome. Just google them.
