Hey guys, i have BMW for over 10 years now and I always had a diesel, back from e46, e39 and now I even have an m57 525D e60, BUT overall my pockets are really starting to empty with my e60 diesel. I mean don't get me wrong it was always expensive to keep up with BMW but stuff that dies on me is in 99% related to diesel engines.
Since i am pretty much hooked to BMW brand i wouldn't want to change it but i think its probably a good idea to move from diesel to petrol. However overall online experience there is not very much info on e60's 525i (218hp) mostly people talk about 530i +, but thats out of my budget. Even in my country i can't find lots of them on sale but on German sites i found like 10-20 nicely kept so i wouldn't mind to go over there and buy it.
My questions are, am i making a mistake changing the so-called "bulletproof" engine m57 for oil-thirsty petrol? About fuel consumption i won't ask since i am sure it spends more then diesel but lets be honest even diesel i have spends like 12l city drive so i am not doing any huge sacrifice there. On autodata i read that it takes like 7.5sec ot 100 and that really sounds fast to me since i am driving a car now that takes 8.5sec but people keep saying that 525i is slow and uphill is slow and its not enough power...
Does anyone have some positive/negative experience with these engines maybe even a similar situation like mine ? Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by oil thirsty. Whoever told you that, must have had a bad leak. My e60 has never been oil thirsty and it actually has a leak at the oil pan gasket.
