My car has a latest Progman update (updated 5 weeks ago) and the latest navigation DVD, but navigations do not show maps.
Hardware update is the only possible path. And I do not know if you can install new LCI M-ASK to pre-LCI car.

I spoke to the dealer in question today, having got the details privately from forum member shinniga who made the original post. The dealer (Dick Lovett in Hungerford) confirmed that it is NOT possible to upgrade a pre-LCI business nav to show 2-D maps - not for ?126, nor indeed for any price. The earlier post was simply a mistake. The only option is the full monty upgrade to prof satnav, which we all know to be a preposterous waste of money - at least ?1,200 even if you buy second hand parts and fit it yourself, and more like ?2,500 if you have it done by a main dealer. No silver bullet after all.

Here in the U.S., we don't have the intermediate option of business navigation. However, as one who has 3D navigation factory installed, I'd say don't spend too much money on BMW navigation at all. The current system isn't all that good. Example: You cannot enter waypoints. Also, when you are arriving at your destination, the voice doesn't even tell you whether the location is on the right or left. Instead, it just shuts off when you're there and leaves you to find the house (a problem in the dark).
You're better off getting an aftermarket system from TomTom or Garmin. Yes, it's not integrated into the dash, but its far cheaper and more sophisticated than what BMW would offer on an E60, plus you finally get an accurate speedo.
