for those of you who have Business Navigation & are located anywhere in the world that supplies TMC signals (note: this is not the same as TP)

does the TMC actually work with your business nav?

Mine does not in the UK and did work when on hols in France.

My dealer tells me it does not and will not work: the function "fails" as the Bus Nav automatically routes you around the traffic incident without choice (as opposed to offering a choice, since often jams are cleared before they are reported) and was always on (could not be stopped)

but someone here said that it worked in Germany.

So, for those of you in, i think it was Germany, with busNav
- does the TMC work
no red bar thru the little cars icon
re-routing (incl off motorway) to skip traffic jams (if known in time) etc.
and
if his works in Germany then why wouldn't mine work here?

and for the proNav people: is that how it works for you?

cheers

On our car, the TMC icon is never present, and we've so far had reception throughout Sweden and Germany. Alas there seems to be no reception in France.

Not under any circumstance has the iDrive notified us about any on-coming jams or incidents of any sort, as we experienced on our 2002 E39.

We've been forced to get the traffic warnings from a list on the iDrive, which quite frankly seems useless and requires too much effort than it ought to. There has never popped up any warning - however, the Dynamic Route function hasn't been activated.

It was me that saw TMC working in Germany and what I saw was the list as described by Passan. Whether this is what the feature should deliver, it is better than nothing which is what I currently have in the UK. As previously mentioned, car goes into the dealer a week on Monday for a 2-day session to get TMC up & running. I get a 7-series loaner in return which I will have to hide around the corner ;-)

Skidster, That's pretty much exactly as you described.

The Nav girl pipes up, "There are problems on your route ahead, recalculating a new route", or words to that effect.

Pretty damn cool.

Like browellm, mine says for example "congestion ahead, re-routing to avoid"
It does this dynamically and if you call up the traffic info screen it gives a list of problems and how close they are to you even if not currently using the guidence.

Interestingly enough, I have version 2004-2 nav disc, My Brother in law has version 2004-1 nav in his 645 (also pro-nav) , His system got the distances and nearest traffic problems quite mixed up even when the two cars were parked side by side.

so obviously the nav software on the dvd is also implicated in the whole TMC debacle.

He tried my disc and it said "wrong software version, shutdown for 10 mins and re-insert disc" on his idrive monitor.

He has opted to claim a new version of the nav disc from his dealer ( Though I do believe clone DVD will copy it)........not that I've tried......yet!

Doc D, have you noticed that sometimes the posted mileages to the reported roads/problems are way way off base??

I am beginning to think this more and more.

Skidster, I would beg, borrow or steal the 2004-2 disc from the dealer. I have a STRONG suspicion this will solve the TMC problem, as I believe the UK portions of the TMC database were incorrectly coded on previous discs.
