My 6 month old 09'535iX has twice in the last six months said oil level low add oil.I added a litre each time and the message went away, but was wondering if others have had similar experiences? I drove about 8,000 kms during this period, mostly city stop and go.

My Ride: Navy 550I
Mine was low when I first got her, but after an oil change and a couple of back and fourths to brooklyn the oil level is ok. Idk maybe the stop and go in the hot weather is causing it to burn. Take it in to da dealer.

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.
Yup. BMW cars and motorcycles burn oil for some reason. Then again so does my Jeep Cherokee... That I'd expect that. I have to add about 1/2 a quart of oil at least once between the scheduled oil services - and that's on both the wife's 330i (30K miles) and my E60 530i (88K miles). I also have a R1200GS, which also burns oil. Then again it's inherent that boxers burn oil up to 20K if not more. Think of it as a BMW thing... I would check the oil once a month at minimal, if it needs oil add some. No biggie as long as your not seeing blue smoke puffing from the pipes. I put in regular Castro 5-30 synthetic - in fact I keep 2 quarts on hand just for this reason.
