im not sure how long that E60 was on fire but the result is completely destroyed interior, all non metal exterior parts and melted tires. What i wonder is: could fire somehow damage quality of alloys (i dont mean purely esthetic) i mean some physical damage to material itself caused by temperature. looks like real bargain to me 124 style 18' rims for almost no money but no idea how safe they are afterall. Any experts around there?

 

I'd be cautious - fire was probably burning at about 1200 degrees F and that's nowhere near the melting point for the metal, but these are "alloy" and some of the additives in the alloy may have been affected. And there's no way of knowing unless you get these wheels and stress test them. And even then, you're driving on a set of rims that are much more succeptible to cracks. There are way too many 124s available in the classifieds to take a risk like this. These "burnt" alloys should be written off.

Thats what was stopping me from taking them on for the whole month before i posted this topic, now with two extra votes against im writing these wheels off. That was classics, common sense against greed.

There are so many of them for sale, I'd not be surprised if you can get a set in excellent condition for 300-400-500 WITH decent tires! Just search!

 

Not that easy unfortunately, im currently in Cyprus, island with all the consequences, plus cypriots are massive car mod fans so things like that are massively overpriced. Guess States are different

So, since its so expensive to get the 124s there, just get some aftermarket rims! Might as well spend a couple of extra Euros and get yourself a proper set of 19s or 20s - no?

 

im sure there are some ways out even here... 19 or 20'? hmmm, shall i move to the States? sounds like E60 paradise. 20's here is a death sentence to a car, roads are far from being the best. by the way are you really therussian as in a russian?

 

I've been around a few shops looking for 20's, there are a few that sell them, a bit expensive though.

The main roads down here aren't so bad, its when you hit the back road sin the residential areas that you have the pot holes, jus gotta drive slowly and look out and drive around them when you spot them.

 

agree, motorways are fine, there are some parts though even there, but should say if you want to stick to a BMW, X5 is a better option for Cyprus
