So my 2007 550i (manual) finally was delivered to me this morning. The delivery dude removes the car off the truck and places it on the street. As soon as I approach the car, i notice a very strong smell coming from under the hood. I question the dude about it and he tells me thats the way the car came. Now i'm puzzled because i had 3rd party inspector check the car prior to me purchasing it, and he told me the car was in great condition with no mechanical problems detected. I question the dealer about it and he tells me no one touched the car since my purchase. Mind you, i am in NY and it was purchased from a dealership on Indiana.

I bring the car directly to BMW one hour later and they tell me that the clutch needs to be replaced. THANK GOODNESS FOR BMW WARRANTIES. The BMW people tell me not to worry because the car is still under full warranty and that it will be replaced at no cost to me. But BMW said that the clutch had be really abused in order for it to be in that burned condition. Someone abused my car between the time it was 1st inspected to the time it was delivered.

Has anyone experienced things like this with delivery? I'm putting pressure on the dealership to give me answers and possibly free stuff for this hassle.

Maybe some one don't know how to drive stick shift burned the clutch while drive it up to the ramp for shipping. We all know how easy to burn the clutch with a newbie in a strong torque car....

listen youre not gonna burn out a clutch in few runs... this is the result of the previous owner abusing it for long time. how many miles on the car? luckily it is covered... but to look on the bright side, at least it happened now than later. and with new clutch, new car!!

ps. i would also ask for a refund on the 3rd party inspection

Thats excellent! New clutch... I would love to get my clutch replaced just before warranty goes out... haha gives me more years and more miles before I need to fork out money to replace it.

Double good news, if you play your cards right - get a new clutch AND a refund (at least partial!!!) for the 3rd party inspection. I'd also try to get something from the delivery people - a smell tends to dissipate after some time, if you know what I mean...

That's exactly what BMW told me.. i think its a combination of a poor inspection and the delivery guy going up the ramp of the truck.

The car has 22,000 miles
