Well finaly got the money together and i will be building a diagnostics laptop, all kit is in the post so hope its the correct stuff

Found a cheap windows XP laptop and a proper USB INPA OBDII cable, also will have INPA and GT1 DIS Progman software, hope fully now I can do my own coding

If you get a EasySYNC USB to CANBUS adapter I can share a program that I've been writing that can read the sensors [that I've decoded so far] and send commands over K-CAN. Interesting stuff.
0x338 is the DTC button press
0x1b8 is the iDrive control knob position sensor
0x0ce I think are the wheel rotation sensors - because it's an 8-bit data packet with four sets of near identical data when the car is in motion: D503 D803 DB03 DA03 at 40 mph
0x2fc are the door sensors
I'm hoping to release this project soon...
