I was cleaning the engine yesterday and noticed that the braces that are used to screw the headlights to the body are both broken? Has anyone seen anything like that? Is it a common problem? Is it covered by warranty?

This happened a lot in the past and they're replaced by dealer. Of course they're covered under warranty. Mine was also replaced.

Broken brackets were common among 2004s made prior to March -- a warranty issue.

Confirmed, my ol' '04 had the same problem.

Just have them replaced, there's also a TIS about the matter.

No such problem with my one-year-old.
