that must be a record breaker, but you can be sure they'll do anything to make it up to you, use it as a bargaining tool...

Just wanted to add my own experience on this topic:
Had exactly the same issue on my '07 530d a couple of months ago. Except it was my 4yr old son who pulled the handle "out, not up"!!
As the car's less than 3 years old, my dealer said it was covered under warranty, but the handle would have to be ordered from Gemany pre-sprayed in the right colour. ("As it's an Individual colour, this would take longer.......")
Couldn't open the door for over a month from outside, and when it eventually went in to be replaced, they had received a handle from Germany - but in primer!!!!! Told me it could be another couple of months wait for one in the right colour. Refused to spray a primered handle as it was "a warranty job so BMW UK won't pay us to spray it".
After a few choice words were exchanged about their policy, I insisted they fit the primered handle as a temporary measure, at least making the door usable. So I'm currently with a primered handle on my car, waiting for the correct colour handle to arrive from Germany.
Been 2 and a half monthssince this saga started. Never had a problem with the dealer before, but I'm really not impressed by the service this time.....
