My car came with dunlop tires but dealer changed them to bridgestones under warranty due to balancing problems.

The bridgestones are less noisy and more comfortable but I can't wait to get back to normal non run flat tires again..

Getting another set of RFs courtesy of BMW. We'll see how long those last.

My car came with the dunlop 18 inch tires, I was told that they are changed to bridgestone from the factory I have a sept. 04 build, I have recently put the bridgestone tires on but thought the dunlop road smoother why the change?

I have 245/40/18 TOYO Proxie 4's on my e60 530i and I am very happy with them, they ride and handle great and NO road noise! (I just wished the were run flats). I have been doing some research and the Bridgestone Potenza run flat's are excellent tires! But I am asking a Master BMW Technician friend of mine first before I buy any new tire, for my new Bimmer! {I have never saw such a well finely tune automobile than the BMW e60's, and I am not taken no more shorts cuts, I will either purchase the best, or won't purchase nothing at all for my e60}

Sincerely,

R. Eddie Presley

Anyone know of online and perhaps independent reviews of these tyres/tires?

You could try http://www.tyretest.com/index.html
In the (dutch) manual BMW states that you cannot replace the RFT's with non-RFT's (something to do with the shape of the rims).
In the (dutch) accessory book it states the rims (for example 124's) can only be bought with RFT's as well.

What is you opinion on this, I know that a few of you replaced the RFT's with non-RFT's.

cheers.

The 2004 US manual does not mention anything about the shape of the rims dictating the use of runflats. It mentions that runflats should be replaced by runflats because there is no spare wheel available (not true on my car -- I have a spare.)

As far as the 124 wheel is concerned, many here have changed to standard tires without any problems. I don't think any of the wheels BMW puts on the E60 are "runflat only" wheels...

I got the RFT tires replaced by Non RFT after 43.500 kms.
More comfortable and less bumpy. The same model Potenza RE 050, and yes, i have a spare.
