Hey all,

Please provide me some lessons learned from your break in experience.

Thanks in advance,

First lesson for me was that it is too easy to unexpectedly break the 4500 rev limit. Unless you have a will power of steel, it will likely happen to you, too. Try to shorten the duration and the frequency. I became enamored with the tach and that helped. I would do 1500 or 2500, or 3500 take offs in each gear, depending on traffic, moods, and curiosity. Best to avoid the wide out acceleration, but you can have a lot of fun during a frisky 3500 launch.

Good luck.

As I mentioned in my 545i Review post, the guys at the dealership told me not to be overly concerned about the 80MPH limit and 4500RPM limit but to be careful about hard braking as they've seen a few new 5's come back to them with warped rotors. I'm at 250 miles and have passed 80MPH a few times and 4500RPM once or twice by accident. 90MPH felt like a standard cruising speed...I really need to hard wire my new Passport 8500.

I always read/heard that the speed limit was 100mph and not 80.

I stayed at or below 4500 rpm but brought it up to 130mph a few times for short periods, I have 927 miles.

I was told by my dealer that the limit was 100mph. Set the limit in the I Drive, being in Germany it was extremely hard to stay below 100mph. 3000mi now an I have reach 140+ on several occasions feels great.

Thanks for the posts. I'm still waiting. Hopefully, my car will reach my dealer in Tucson prior to my birthday 18 June.

I am at 1990 miles now and I found that after the break in the car drives smoother now.

spec33,
How many miles have you driven? Have you noticed an increase in power? Have you had any problems?

I have close to 4000mi and still loving it. Just the other day I was crusing at 120mph and decided to push it a little up to 140 (smoooooth). I love the ride and handle. I have not noticed any power change however, my gas milage has improved. It has changed from 17.2mpg to 19.0, big difference. Still not happy with all the options. There are still some glithes.
