why do you have to replace the sensors if they are not worn? If you replace the pads before they wear down the plastic then why are they not still good? I did not replace mine when I changed the pads and rotors but I also did not reset the count yet.

An ex-collegue of min is the the manager at a BMW workshop (and works for BMW for 28 years) and he always services my car. He told me that he always changes the sensors, but don't execatly now why. He also told me when you reset the service for the brakes, and it goes wrong, he has to hook the car up to the computer to reset it.
I ran my 1999 528i on the same set of sensors for the seven years 95,000+ miles I had it (through a few sets of pads). I put aftermarket pads on my 2006 530xi a few weeks ago - used the original sensors.

Hi
Dan8400 - i have exactly the same -9000 mile crap coming up on my idrive having just changed the pads and gone through the 'odometer button' reset procedure. My wear sensor did however have light marks on it as it had contacted the disk - but didnt look trashed.
Guess I might have to try a new sensor.
Have you managed to get the -9000 cleared?
thanks

Just found pic of sensor on below site, and the sensor doesnt have the 'bump' - see
http://www.zeckhausen.com/BMW/E60.htm
bummer - need a sensor I think. Cant see a 'wire' - looks like a flat copper area but hard to see under all the crap.

Hi Folks,
Dont take car to dealers. Buy a new sensor for a few bucks and it will reset via dash. This happened to mine and read -9000, bought replacement sensor and reset via dash no problem.
