Its the brake sensor, I had the same problem with mines with about 80% left on my rear brake pads. So I changed the brake sensor and the noise went away for about 3 months and came back. Its just how it is, when the sensor is brand new, there is plastic covering up the magnet or metal part of the sensor but eventually when it wears down the metal gets exposed and when you brake the metal rubs on the rotors which makes that annoying squealing sound. Bmw has created a new sensor which replaces the old ones which supposedly made out of better material and eliminates the squealing but I still get it. You can try changing the sensor out and see what happens, I think its like $25 at the dealer. Oh and one more thing, make sure the brake pad material has a decent amount of lining left or else the new sensor will be too thick to fit in. Hope this helps

if im correct they sell a spray that can be used to reduce squeaking from misalligned brake pads or it can be used by sneaky mechanics that will just spray pads that might have some life on them and tell you they replaced them......

What about upgrading the brakes for E60 (3.0xi) with EBC Ultimax Sport BlackDash rotors combined with EBC Redstuff brake pads?

I think there was a SIB for this brake squeel on the e60/e63 models... It was to do with the sensors...
