First remove the connector from the rear brake pads and try to reset like that. Range will decrease until -25.000.
Plug back the connector and reset.
If cannot reset, you need a new sensor, even if seems to be just fine.

Are you telling me that even though the rear one was not tripped I have to replace it?

I had the same problem when i changed my rear ones on my E60... after around 20 goes it had to go intoBMW so that the could completely reset the brake system (electronically) as it would not reset at first even for them. I think after a certain amount of times that is what happens. You are doing everything right with the reset (just as I was) but it just wonbt do it.... Like everyone else on here has said, change the sensors but also if you have to, make sure that they are the original BMW sensor as the aftermarket ones can be a pain.

I bought a full set of pads and sensors from BMW, but since the rears were only 20% worn I did not replace them.

I'll try unplugging the rear one this weekend and see if that works.

Thanks.

This is the internal structure of a brake sensor.
You can see what happens if the strap is broken.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter if the sensor is OEM, or not. For example i rebuilt mine. And after reset it works just fine.

Same issue here. When I access the rear brakes on the menu it asks for reset? and I push the button. It then populates with -15000. Anyone else see this?

Another quick question: ARe the brake sensors universal? Meaning is there a specific difference between the front and rear? I have one unused from the fronts I replaced last year...

Yes, this is what I got when it would not reset.

I unplugged the sensor and plugged it back it and it still would not reset.

Since I had a new one, I plugged it in and I was able to reset it.

I switched it back and it showed a lesser warning on the dash.

So I pulled the sensor off the brake pad and found this. So, I put the new one on.

Electrically they may be the same, but mine were physically different. It had to do with the shape and length of the wire.
