So, last weekend I finally got my tires loose from the car (thanks for all your help here) and I put new brakes on. To reset the brake warining light, the instructions said to put in the key, don't start the car and wait 30 seconds. Well, that didn't work!

Any ideas? It's a 07 525 XI.

Thanks

I have tried inserting media 3x... been that kind of day as it shows up and then I hit submit and it disappears in the post - search youtube for "resetting bmw service interval"... there are a ton of videos.

For my car I turned the key to the 2nd position and held the reset/trip button in until the prompts began. I used the reset button to cycle through since I dont have the lever on the turn signal stalk.

Thanks, I'll give YouTube a try.

I have one of those key fobs you stick in a hole and push a button to start the engine.

I tried the web and Youtube and here is what I found and tried.

I have a key fob that I insert and then I would push the start button, don?t know if this changes things.

The car is a 2007 525 XI.

Well, I?ve tried:

Putting the key in the ignition and waiting 2 min (I?ve read anywhere from 30 sec to 10 min), remove key then reinsert and start engine. Didn?t work. Also waited 2 min then started the engine. Didn?t work

Turn the key on, press the odometer button (yes, it was reset to zero) and hold it wait for the triangle, release and press again. This just displays the time and temperature and goes nowhere. Even tried pressing the start button, without holding the brake so the engine would not start. That didn?t work either.

Next I tried putting in the key and pressing the Check button, that didn?t work.

Finally read a post from some guy that said he called the dealer and they told him that after 2005 you had to bring it into them to reset it. This was on a post that was talking about the first sequence I have listed here.

I don?t believe it has anything to do with the sensor since I can?t even get to reset my oil change mileage.

Anybody have any experience with this?

Do I need to by a scan tool of some sort?

Will a scan tool fix this?

What would be a recommendation for a scan tool (if in fact I need one)?

Thanks for any help here, it?s driving me crazy.

Set tripmeter to zero first, then follow the following procedure:

2 tips:
- the driver's door must be closed when you try to reset (that's a condition to acces the menu).
- in most cases, until you won't change the sensor itself, you cannot reset.

This one had the step that all the other forgot to say "Pust the start button (without your foot on the brake).

That got me in, thank's for that.

I reset the front one, but the rear one won't reset even though the pads are in great shape and the sensor is fine.

Are you telling me that even though the rear one was not tripped I have to replace it?
