My brakes do the same thing, but all the time. I put brand new pads and rotors on the car, and it still makes the noise. The brakes only make noise at low speeds right before I stop. My friend with a 330i has the same problem. He claims the noise comes from the fact that the genuine pads create so much dust, and the buildup creates a squeak. Not sure if I buy that. Please let me know what the dealer tells you.

Is your car under warranty? Are the brakes the original equipment pads and rotors? A dealer will charge you to diagnose and fix another person's work!

Some pad materials are noisy - some use specific anti-squeal backings and springs to dampen out the vibration that cause the noises you hear as a squeal. The sliding / moving parts are [or should be] properly lubricated with high-temp grease that helps reduce the vibrations etc.

The noise can be annoying but in most cases it isn't 'dangerous' or won't affect brake performance.

Had the same issue on mine. I will wait to see what the dealer has to say.

Take it into the dealer. I went in today to change the oil and told them the brakes were squealing when coming to a stop. They changed both pads and sensors on the front and put anti-squeal grease on all four pads (it's dark/orange-brown in color so you can see it if you look closely), under warranty so free of charge. No more noisy brakes

My X3 brakes squeal a bit a day or so after a rain. My 550i did it when new but not lately. What I do (and did when the 550i was new) was to do several hard stops in a row. This beds in the pads a bit and can eliminate the squealing.
