It was said to reduce brake dust and make better braking too.

not going to spend too much finding out the actual cause, but if anyone has some idea of the cause, it sure helps to understand better on our E60.
Which brake pads is best?

I've got about 20k on my current pads and they have been making the sound for the last 5k (iDrive says Ive got better than 30k left on front and rears). Since there is still so much meat on them, I'm considering it an 'audible feature' to let me know they are working. I'll do the next pad change myself and switch to something quieter.

well, not sure if such issue is common or not but I felt BMW (stock) rotors sucks! I dont have such problem in other Jap cars
was told (prelim study by my mechanic friend) that bcos my rotos had warped alittle, hence the high pitch sound sometimes when I brake to stop.
BMW unable to provide me any replacement under warranty as they are classified as waer n tear parts...so I guess the only way is change rotors, and also to my carbon brake pads.
will post some pic of the change next week...

yeah the problem is becoming familiar fast, i'm having the same symptoms here, minus the mechanic friend.

so i'm just checking out my options, whether it's going to be simply changing pads, or going aftermarket with the whole thing

hmmmmmm..no decisions yet

Did you mean cross drilled rotors?

BTW, don't forget to properly bed-in your new brakes .
