Question on brake rotor wear...I just replaced my brake pads and rotors and I notice that the rotors had a criss cross pattern when I took off the old ones. Now the new ones have the same pattern...any idea what would be causing this? See pic.

The criss-cross / hatch pattern is intentional. It is to promote even wear, to prevent glazing and to reduce vibration harmonics. It is done on OEM rotors and one of the things I look for in an aftermarket rotor.

Thanks for the information. I guess my back rotors are not OEM. They don't have the criss-cross...just circular pattern.

I've seen a spiral pattern on a rotor surface. Not sure the what the benefit is, if any, over the more common cross hatch pattern.

Looking at your rotor, (of course I have no measuring tool or your rotor in front of me) but looks like it was not in need of replacement. The wear on it looks minimal and there is no lip. Unless you recently had them turned. To me those markings/lack of lip indicate it was either turned or is new.

Yup..the picture is of the new rotors.

The cross hatch section promotes good pad break in it gives the new pads something to bite on. If the rotor didnt have this its easily done by a power drill and a metal brush attachment..The same is done in cylinder walls to help the rings seat
