Default Brake rotor question

- My RealOEM.com profile says my e60 rotors are part number #34116763824
- When I looked them up I saw them advertised as “lightweight”, but nothing about the material(s)
- When I look for performance rotors, they always want me to qualify wether my car came with “Full cast” or “Aluminum Hat” from factory, and I don’t know the answer to that question

So...
Are my OEM rotors that came with the car the aluminum option since they are advertised elsewhere as “lightweight”?

I want new rotors but don’t want to go UP in weight. Gonna get drilled/slotted so I think they should be lighter, but no way to tell.

Want some insight... anyone??

Thanks,
// Radar //

If you want lighter, then go aluminum. If you're into spirited braking, go full cast.

You're running meth so you shouldn't be looking at aluminum.

Yeah, I think the aluminum refers to the “floating rotors” I had on my E46. I would have them again, but would not pay the extreme up charge to have them again! Lol

I'm positive (now) that my car came with full cast.

thanks!

Factory rotors (348mm front /345 rear) that came on the rwd 535/ and v8 545/550 cars are a 2 piece aluminum hat floating rotor. These reduce rotational mass and are pretty much used on all performance and track cars now.

The OEM and oem brand(zimmerman has an option) make them this way; cheaper aftermarket ones are the standard cast 1 piece because its easier/cheaper

okay, so I find that VERY interesting, thank you.

I wonder how much these ^^^ (mine) weigh vs slotted/drilled rotors.

I’m not getting the drilled and slotted for better braking... I’m getting them, like everyone else, because they look great. I just don’t want to trade a big weight increase for better esthetics.

Hmmmm....

And that's what I meant when I said spirited braking, i.e. like on a track.
