Just replaced front brake pads on my '04 545i went to reset iDrive with the process laid out in the bently manuals: turn on ignition w/engine off, hold down trip reset button (10secs) until front brake icon appears, then press again, display reads "reset?" hit the button again but no reset. I changed the pads, new sensor, and the rotors were within specs ( over 28.4mm thickness ). I checked the sensor for a resistance reading and got 2.5ish ohms at the pin terminals. Any suggestions?

It can be tricky to reset- you have to hold your mouth just right. Try doing it again.

You should also read this thread for some further suggestions:

Hello!

The sensor should be replaced as the old one will be worn down.

Was it a genuine BMW one as sometimes the aftermarket ones do not work properly

Also did you reset the miles before it reached around 1000 miles or was it saying -1000 miles or something?

When doing the odometer... make sure the miles on trip were set to 0 beofre trying to do reset

Mine said 700 miles to go and when i tried to reset it, the sensor was faulty or the mileage was too low to reset it on the odometer reading and then eventually after four or five goes i gave up and tried another day.... 10 more goes still didnt work.

Then i put it into BMW and got them to reset it. They were a bit funny with me as it was not them that had done the brakes but they reset it anyway. There was a problem and they had to reset all the electronics side of the brake system so that it would reset the senosr mileage on the odometer.

It really did wind me up but it was sorted eventually and didnt cost much as it was done by dianostics.

The brake wear sensor can be reused as long as the sensor is not 'tripped' - it's just a simple continuity break sensor. If you didn't get the light on the dashboard from the brake pad sensor, you can swap the sensor from old pads to new pads, if your new pads didn't come with new sensor. Note that the 'light on the dashboard from the brake pad sensor' is not related to the number of miles shown on the iDrive.
