So i powder coated my OEM 545 sport wheels black and i did not take care of them too well. Now a thick layer of brake dust has built up on the inner part of the rims and will not come off  , i tried alot of solutions including the bmw wheel cleaner gel, and nothing works if you have anything please advise - summer is around the corner!

I have the same problem. The only thing that will work permanently is AXXIS brake pads.

Let me know if you find a spray or solution that works for now. I need one just as bad as you do.

geez i think you need that heavy duty stuff that they used to clean my wheels before they repaired them.. but not strong enough to ruin your powdercoat... i wonder if you can clay them to get the grit off (of course throwing out the clay afterwords)

+1 on the Axxis Deluxe Plus!

The easiest and probably most effective is brake cleaner. It will desolve the brake dust. HOWEVER, not sure if it is safe for powder coat. I think it would be as powder coating is pretty tough and not a paint. You would have to check with a someone who does powder coating to make sure.

If this is not an option, I would to try a cleaner/polish that is safe for clear coat that you would use on your paint. Something that has some abrasive to it. Mothers makes a pre-wax cleaner that might be worth a try or rubbing compound until you get down to the powder coat.

Try Mr. Clean? Magic Eraser.

I clean the inner barrels of my wheels once a year when I change to snow tires. First I use wheel cleaner and rinse thoroughly but to get all the grime off I use Gumout carburetor cleaner. It?s the only thing that cuts through the grime/tar/brake dust but I make sure it doesn't get on the front part of the wheels.
