My Ride: 520 D SE Standard Car, Deep Sea Blue Metalic
Default

Now covered nearly 17000 miles since Sep 07 -UK 57 in my 520d SE and still loving it but have noticed a lot of stone chips on my bonnet. Colour is Deep Sea Blue. Spoke to BMW Customer Services today and they did not seem surprised said to report it when the car is first at service. Has anyone else had any problems with this paint colour or is it because the metal is alumimium. My SAAB 93 covered 47800 miles in 30 months and had only two chips in all that time and volvos prior to this seemed to have a paint finish that when waxed every week was resilient.
Fuel consumption still averaging 47.2 mpg combined but on motorway ( highway ) at average 70mph actually achieving 62.7 mpg on runs.

Will post some tomorrow.
Have you tried BP Ultimate - do you know if it makes any difference to performance or engine noise - not that the engine is loud anyway.

My 2005 525d E61 bonnet is also badly stone chipped and I have also noticed that a lot of other e60/e61 that I see are the same.I think its a bad design fault of the bonnet and the front bumper,But I also think that the paintwork on newer cars is softer than before as the black paint on my car marks very easily.
Also Ive never known a car that gets its windscreen chipped so easily this must be a bmw trait as ive owned mercs and audis before and theyve never been as bad as this..
Fuel consumption averaging 32.5mpg and at 70mph does 40mpg..

Consumption seems vg for a 3 litre engine. Have you tried the BP Ultimate diesel to see if it makes any difference.
Will advise how I get on with chips as my oil change will be due in 2/3 weeks.
I took option of 3 yrs service and maintenance but i drive suggest that numerous visits will be required eg oil in 3400 miles, rear pads in 8000 miles and front pads surprisingly in 14000 miles. I always have replaced front pads before rear in previous cars.

Wouldnt mind if it was a 3L but its the 177 2.5 and not as frugal as it should be!

My April 2007 520D M Sport (Deep Sea Blue) is suffering also. 44,000K of main road cruising and it looks like it has been shot with a shotgun. Compared to a friends 2005 520i Carbon Black my paint is much worse. Seems the Blue must be soft as hell...... Will BMW do anything for you?
