My Ride: MY05 545i Jet Black with Auburn interior. SMG, Logic7, Sport Package, Comfort Seats, Navigation.
I just received a letter from BMWNA stating that they would like to perform a few emission check on my 545i. In the letter, BMW said that this is to monitor how their engine fares as it accumulates mileage. And if they find that I should need any emission repair, they would do it free of cost and with genuine BMW parts. The whole ordeal takes 7-10 days and it includes the following incentive:
1. $250 paid after the emission check.
2. Free "late model" BMW as loaner. Free unlimited mileage and fully insured by BMWNA.
3. High Quality (I don't know if it means full detail) car wash.
4. Pick up and drop off your car at your agreed place.
5. Satisfaction in knowing that your car is running at its cleanest state (I am not joking, it's listed as an incentive)
Have any of you received this letter? If so, should I lend my car to them? They promissed that my car would be handle with highest respect and professionalism.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
How many miles on your car (at last dealer "reported" service)?
I supect a couple of things: They are checking the lifespan performance of key pollution-control components which they must guarantee to the federal govt (and CARB, probably) for nearly 100,000 miles (cat convert etc.) and also, I bet they are doing so in Ground Zero for emissions attention, your hometown of LA where they can present appropriate local stats to CARB.
I just hope they aren't having troubles again--my E39 went through cat converters (2) every 40K. At $1600 each, that got old after the then-warranty period by federal law, of 60K, was up. I think the law may be up to 100K now, or close to it, over an incremental mileage schedule.
I might be inclined to take it, IF they told me what they found (which they never will, cuz they know you'll tell us....lol)
Cheers,
Ray Hull

$250 isn't worth it to me to have somebody screwing around with my car for 7 - 10 days.

My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
Looks like I'm alone in this, but I'd do it. Probably because I live in Manhattan so having my car isn't as necessary as where most of you guys are.
I'm always down to try out other models. The $250 would make up for if they give me a car I don't like, like an X3 or something.
