By the way, how can someone steal a BMW without towing it. Without the key everything shuts down and it can not be hot wired. It needs that key code. No electronics to the car whatsoever.

In my opinion if someone does steel my car I do not want it back. I want a new one from the insurance company. I don't want one that has probably been stripped and abused.

I thought Assist could NOT locate a stolen car.? Is this something new or is it typical dealer confusion?
eta: kscarrol beat me to it.? It's funny how we both capitalized the word not...

Not even here in Germany, where they are not scared that they might get sued for everything they do...

[/quote]alohalc is right! A "pro" thief can steal any car he wants! The only way to protect your car is an aftermarket device for tracking the car down, and I wouldn't go with lojack, because a "pro" will have the same device the police cars have and finds out that the car has lojack. Then it's not hard to find it in the car...
Mine can't be found by any thief, just if he takes the whole car apart, but meanwhile I would have found him!

I wonder if your insurance company will make you prove you renewed the Assist service each year to continue to give the discount?

Got a email confirmation from the dealer that BMW Assist WILL be able to locate a stolen car with model year 2005. He is inquiring for more information to its functionality, but sounds like the same info that willbedone provided. When I receive further information, I will post.

Please do. Someone over on Roadfly made the same claim, but I didn't believe it. Did your dealer indicate if it something that they could retrofit/make functional in MY2004 cars?

I would allways add an aftermarket device.
If it's a stock system, the thief knows it's there and will find a way to steal the car without getting traced...

Like everyone has said... if they're a pro they'll steal your car anyways. Then they can have it. And for the U.S. how many BMW are actually stolen completely? for UK I dont know but for U.S. not that many... Break ins' theres a lot but not really complete vehicle theft. especially not BMWs what are they going to do with the parts? sell them underground? To Ricers? Oh wait thats not BMWs those are Hondas...
