WERE ALL ABOUT DRIVING, NOT ABOUT PARKING!!!
Someone told me the other day that it requires something retarded like 23 feet to execute the automatic parallel park feature. I might be off remembering the distance, but whatever it is, it sounded too large... more than I'd expect to find anywhere. Also, I'd imagine that lining the car up properly is still going to be important - and most of the people I know who can't parallel park first start getting into trouble on the approach so to speak. If you can't start at the proper point, the rest is going to be a nightmare.
We have a saying in the IT Security world, and I think it holds true in this case as well... "there's no patch for stupidity". Sadly, I think the people who really need this parking utility probably won't be savvy enough to operate it properly.

It's not about whether people can use it or not, but it's about Lexus' marketing strategy is that it wants to show off and tell the world that it is "inventing", not copying. However, to me, Lexus is still way behind Mercedes and BMW in terms of prestige and drivability.
Looks at tire size of Lexus LS460, it's so pathetic: P235/50VR18. It's even smaller than E60 front tires
This still proves that Lexus needs to improve more. This tire size makes car look so wimpy and more like "prestige wanna be" car. ![Nono](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/nono.gif)
You're perfectly right, "who really need this parking utility probably won't be savvy enough to operate it properly."

The space needs to be 4 feet longer than the car and you have to line it up properly... by then a MINI Cooper can go head in and take your spot!

I like this part:
"Perhaps the greatest irony, to me, about the Lexus Park Assist is that it's an option on a luxury car that costs $70,000.
People with that kind of cash to spend on a new car will probably already have the parking assist thing worked out. It's called a parking garage with valet service."
In other words, this feature is just a show off from Lexus that it can invent things. Not only copying. However, their invention is always different from German engineer's invention in which all possible scenarios are taken into consideration. Whereas, Lexus (Toyota)'s invention is just a gimmick and never taken other scenario into consideration. In this case: valet parking and a Mini or Smart-for-2 would already took the place before it can park itself
and Toyota might never thought of that.

I totally agree with the article.
The system help when help is needed the least. They should just throw in the option for free and hope for feedback from the consumer so they can improve the system, a dumb move for Lexus.

I should mentioned that LS460 is an V8 vehicle, so it should have bigger tires. E60 V8 rear tire is 275/40/18 and front is 245/40/18
