I am interested in diagnostics, resetting fault codes, upgrading software and learning what the normal operating engine temperature should be.

I have the AutoEnginuity tool which allows you to do everything you stated you wanted with the exception of upgrading your car's software. I know of no consumer available tool that will do that.
