I also have a problem my car will make a weird sound from time to time and gets stuck on an Mp3 track change.

The CD's are burnt by me the media brand is Verbatim they are considered good brand.

Now when I told my BMW staff he told me "are your CD's legit?" I was like "could Mp3 CD's be legit? But the car clearly states it supports Mp3's..."

maybe the SA was messing around... my SA was messing around with me the first day I ever shook hands with him but I wasn't so gullible... and seeing how you thought Luigi was serious, I'm guessin' you just misunderstood and blew it out of proportion. I can't imagine a warranty being voided for burned CD's!!

I think this is a simple case of incorrect SA training. I bet BMW must tell them about copied Nav discs and how it slows the iDrive down etc and then someone makes that rule apply to all discs.
I have spoken to bmw customer service (bracknell) and they have told me to go back to the SA and ask her for an explanation as it clearly does not void any warranty (cos it clearly states on the 5series manual that the car can play any sorts of data cd - cd-cdr-cdrw), they also said to give them a call if she still tries convincing me wid her 'copied CD voids warranty - Bull Shyt' and they will deal with her from then on...

I just found out today that BMW reserves the right to change their extended maintenance warranty at anytime and without notice. It would not surprise me one bit if they made this change after the car was bought.

dude - i'm glad you got to the bottom of this mp3 cd/dvd malarchy......

i can confirm from experience that the copied or burnt mp3 media does not affect the warranty - infact when i had my M-audio controller replaced recently, the dealer gave me a list of recommended mp3/aac/wma bit rates to help me burn the media with the supported rates ;-)

hate to say this but that lady SA sounds inadequately equipped to handle "difficult" questions ;-)
