BMW sales figures

has anyone heard if BMW sales of 5 series are going well ?
There was an initial backlash about the controversial design & technology, but am curious to see if buyers have proved the critics wrong.

I don't have any sales figures but reading into the fact that production dates are being brough forward I'd assume that the factory has some spare capacity.
I wouldn't worry though. I seem to remember that when the last 5 and 3 came out BMW were slated for being too conservative and that they'd loose ground to their competitors.
Seems you can't win in this business. IMO the styling will date other cars very quickly and we will soon be wondering what all the fuss was about.

January '04 sales of the 5 Series declined 4.8% compared to January '03.
Although, I was thinking that the E60 inventory just hasn't been huge. Every time I went into a dealeership, they only had a few E60s and it seemed like you had to order one to get the one you really want (and I'm not sure most folks are all that patient). Not sure, just an impression. Obviously, the final sales figures will be a better barometer. Especially when the factory gets those cars pumping out faster.

I have gone into two of my local dealers on a regular basis. (once a week) Their inventories fluctuate greatly. They will have 10-15 on hand one week on the next they will be mostly gone. They must be going out the door. But, to get what you really want you still need to order them just as always.

I drive on the M1 daily (60+ miles/day)
the new 5's used to be rare (ie never saw any)
More and more are appearing here + there every month - but still in quite small numbers

Just read this:
"BMW NA: Customer reception of the new 5 Series sedan continues to be strong with February sales of 3,780 automobiles, a 25 percent increase over the 3,023 previous models sold a year ago."
