my question to any members on the board with roof rack for bikes, mountain bikes, is the bmw roof rack durable or should i go with the outside brands like thule or yakima???

I have used the BMW racks for over five years, summer and winter. They work great and are not expensive. imho. I use then for surfboards, snowboards and skis. If you open any door and run your hand along underside of the roof ridge, you will feel the indentation where the rack go. They work great.
