Everyone pray for me! I want my $1200 back!!!!!!! I've got 90K on my 5 and had to hand-over my debit card with a very sad expression on my face (despite the fact that the service advisor was pretty hot -- making it easier to do whatever she said).
-Cheers
There has been some writings on this Forum about the same problem.

You just MUST get your money back!

Good luck.

i talked to one of my friends, he's a bmw mechanic. anyways he told me if you're not covered by a warranty and you bring the car back for a recall. you end up having to pay for the labor. but that doesn't sound right, i would think if its a recall you don't have to pay a penny out of pocket. did anyone bring their car in for the recall and not have the warranty?

Isn't this the same message that many of us received on our I-drive indicating a Passenger Restraint Fault in which the dealer replaced this particular mat.

Yes, I believe you are corrrect. My 06 (with standard seat) had this problem earlier in the year. It took the dealer 1/2 a day to complete the repair.

Follow up... SA and BMWNA both called (shock) to tell me that my vehicle (04/545) is part of the recall and i should be reimbursed for the $$ i paid to fix the out-of-warranty problem.

As reported by many, letters due out in Sept. Dealers will not do anything until they get direction on how to handle new cases and "paid-for" cases.

I am a little paranoid, but so far, BMW has been forthcoming with the information, minimal as it is.
And as tweaked as i was when i had to fix the sensors, the recall is the only way i'm going to get my money back.

Will advise later on in Sept.

While searching about it, I've found this info

"SENSOR MATS FOR USA ARE INCLUDED IN
SEAT COVERS"

while for EU cars are sold as a separate part. I don't know why ...maybe because in the US, they are able to de-activate the passenger's seat airbag?

EU cars: seat occupancy detection sensor mat - co-driver (no difference if car is Right Hand or Left Hand Drive)

US cars: upholstery with seat occupancy detection sensor mat
