Also steering occaisionally makes a loud grinding noise when turning. Yet again has any one else had this problem.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
On another point does anybody know if in dash cd player operates as an mp3 player. I have no NAV. Is this a software issue or do you have to have NAV for mp3 to work..

AFAIK you must have pro radio and business NAV at the moment to get mp3. Pro NAV owners are still waiting

Just heard of another case of an exhaust manifold failing in a 2004 530D and it caused no end of turbo problems etc. The model in question was fitted with the modified (post recall) part. The recall was for a specific early 2004 build - anyone else had trouble with this issue with or without a recall notice?

Had the same problem with steering noise, dealer cured by total strip down?unfortunatly the steering wheel was out of alignment, complained to dealer and asked to take it back solved the alignment problem in 1Hr, stated that some sensor had been incorrectly set, now both the noise and the steering wheel alignment perfect, I would take it back and tell him to get it positioned correctly!

[/quote]The manifold failed and threw debris through the turbo. The turbo then failed and required replacement along with the cat and particle filter. Obviously not a common problem then, judging from the response!

Got the car back within 24 hours, dealer had replaced the turbo assembly.
Didn't get any information as to why it failed, car has 27,400 miles on it.
Obviously I'm pleased the car has come back so quickly, on the other hand it's worrying that the part was on the shelf - perhaps it's an all too common occurence.
I imagine it's a high cost repair out of warranty
