bmw recall

My Ride: 525d Automatic Silver grey with beige dakota leather, Blue tooth, extended lights xenon head lights, park distance, 138 wheels,extended aircon, service inclusive
Just received a letter from bmw stating that my exhaust manifold needs to be swapped for a new designed unit. Apparently the present manifold can splinter and corrode inside causing problems with the CAT and the exhaust turbo charger. My car is a 525d built in may 2004. Has anyone had this letter or problem.
Also car going in for steering problem which occaisionally has a knock. Also steering occaisionally makes a loud grinding noise when turning. Yet again has any one else had this problem.
On another point does anybody know if in dash cd player operates as an mp3 player. I have no NAV. Is this a software issue or do you have to have NAV for mp3 to work..

haven't had the recall letter, but I do have the knock when steering - mentioned it to my dealer and they could find no problem. Let me know how it goes with this as I've never had a car with such a steering noise before. (530d Nov. 2004)

My car is a 525d built in May of 2004 as well
I have that steering wheel noise as well. my dealer got it fixed by changing the whole steering system TWICE.
since they did this no noise at all but my wheel looks tilted a bit meaning that it is not parrallel to the dashboard anymore (leaning left) i complained but they told me that all E60 are the same.....!!!!!
I am just happy to see that other E60 owners had the same noise problems it drove me nuts for a while. at least now i know it wasn't a dealer problem.
Did not get that recall letter since I am in tunisia (north africa) they probably forgot about us here......
please keep us psoted I will contcat my dealer on monday and ask about the recall.

in letter they said that they need 3 hours to changed that what they need and next wednesday i go to change that...but serviceman say that they need whole day to change and put new software..so next wednesday we will see what will happenend....

My car was in yesterday for the door seal rattle.
Well with 4 new door seals seems the dealer thinks the problem is still not fixed.
So they are asking BMW for more advice and re-booked me in.
They said also there is a recall for the exhaust- news to me.
Anyway both are lined up again in 2wks time.

No manifold replacemnt letter for now...
