According to the recall:
Should the system fail, in the event of a crash, the front passenger air bag would be deactivated, increasing the risk of personal injury.”
The recall notification letters will be sent in January 2014, as the repair parts are not yet available. Second letters will be sent when the repair parts are in-stock and available for installation (expected to be March 2014).
Additionally, 2006-07 3-series models with standard seats, 5-series with comfort seats and Z4 models will receive an extended warranty on the passenger occupancy detection mats.
Owners of affected vehicles are being notified by BMW. Further information can be obtained by contacting BMW customer relations at 1-800-525-7417.

Anyone know why the recall do not include 2004 - 2005's e60?

I have a 2004 with the "passenger restraint malfunction" error and dealership quoted me $1500 to fix it =(.

I got the same issue on my 2004. This is total bullshit. Their was 1 voluntary recall in 2008 which covered 2004-2006 5 series but my vin wasn't on there. Now there is part 2 in recalls and it starts at 2006. We need to email BMW NA and put some pressure on them.

Well I sent an email to BMW because the people I got on the phone couldn't help me. We need to challenge BMW on this because I will never buy one again if they are going to play games like this on recalls.
