I just ordered a 545 with the performance package. What is irritating with BMW's pricing is the fact that practically everything is an "Option". Could it be that BMW prices everything as an option so that they can quote a low base price? I also own a MDX. With the exception of the Navigation System, which was an option, everything was included in the base price. By the way, the Navigation System of the MDX and the Japanese cars in general are much better than the ones on the German cars. I have a friend who has a Mercedes S500 and he comments that the Nav system is so terrible that he does not use it. Why can't the German car manufacturer's go to the same suppliers as the Japanese car manufacturers for the Nav System?

Finally, does anyone know at what stage of production a car is if the VIN number is posted on the BMW Owner's Circle site? The site states that my 545 will be produced during the week of Nov 11. I understand that this site is not reliable and perhaps a few weeks behind. Any info on this?
