Yeah BMW paint is VERY unforgiveing... but one plus side..JET BLACK BMW paint has by far the deepest luster in any paint job i've ever seen.. but if you got a 1032948093487209387420934723 swirl marks thennnn maybe not

My Ride: 05 545i silver
There was a member here that had similar paint lapses on silver over the rear end quarter which he noticed after taking delivery of the car and I do remember him getting a buy back and replacing the car.

Paint sucks! I found 2 dots where the outter paint is like missing and is down to the undercoat...
IT was NOT there before and they are not door dings... the car surface around it is still ALL perfect besides the one DOT, like a little bigger than the tip of a pen.
Its almost like when they painted the car there was an air bubble and now it popped and left no paint there.

It's not just BMW--all car manufacturers have switched from solvent based to water based paints over the last 10 years due to environmental issues. My experience is the paint on my 545i is much, much more durable than on the Porsches or Mercedes I've owned over the last 10 - 15 years. It's probably the fact that the clear coat on our cars is a power based paint that's baked on. Check out this site for info on paint process:

My car--7 months old--doesn't have a single rock chip on the front end. I could never say the same for my Porsches
