The dealer came back to me on retrofitting the BMW online. Basically they said that BMW UK were unsure of how it could be done and that I needed to take my car in so they could upload the config and hardware details of my car.
After plugging it in the dealer told me that the car was receiving an update from Munich to install the BMW online but this needed a feel update to be run. However, this was not a 5 minute job. It took over 24 hours for the update to be installed as it updated all of the control systems etc too. BMW had my car for 2 days and I have just received it back. I now have to wait up to 72 hours for BMW to activate the BMW Online piece (I already have BMW Assist etc working). Then once that is activated I need to take the car back in so that it can be activated on the IDrive menu system.
So all in all it can be retrofitted but it is not a 5 minute job. And the best bit, it was done by the dealer Free Of Charge too!!!!!
Now that's what I call customer service............

Sorry I know this is old, but I have also tried the same, just got a 530d lci with no online but the assit is there, when I called to say where is it as my car is a 57 plate therefore October 07, they said it was only installed on cars from september 07, so again i said great my car is October 07 so where is it. They then came back to me after number plates and chasis number conversations that my car was built in June, therefore not available, and the cost to have it fitted was in the £1000's, as it needed new modules blah blah blah blah blah stopped listening at the £1000.
So i gave up but then came across this thread.
so my question is how did you get it done????
